ADMISSION INTO MEMBERSHIP
At Busia Modern Farmers Co-operative Society, we welcome people of similar interest to join and be members. Every applicant for membership shall complete an “application for membership” form. This form shall be drawn to show all the information required for the purpose of registration of a member.
- An applicant shall be admitted to membership on application upon payment of an entrance fee of Kshs.1, 000.00
- Upon admission the members’ name shall be entered in the membership register and a membership number issued.
- Members shall be admitted by the board subject to Confirmation they have paid the entrance fee and purchased the minimum shares.
- The member shall pay for a copy of the society by-laws at its actual cost to the society.
REFUSAL OF ADMISSION
The board may refuse admission to a person after assigning reasons for their decision. Such a person, if otherwise eligible for membership, shall have the right to appeal to the next General Meeting.
RIGHTS OF MEMBERS.
A member of the Co-operative Societyshall have the right to: –
- Attend and participate in decision making at all general meetings of the society and vote;
- Be elected to organs of the society, subject to these by– laws
- Enjoy the use of all the facilities and services of the society subject to the Co-operative Societyby–laws
- All legitimate information relating to the society, including, internal regulations, registers, Minutes of general meetings and supervisory committee’s reports, annual accounts and inventories at the society registered office.
ELIGIBILITY FOR MEMBERSHIP TO THE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
Apart from a member being of required age and of Sound mind, to be admitted to the management committee,one should not have the following characteristics.
- A member has not been a member of the Co-operative Society Society for at least one year prior to the Annual Delegates Meeting.
- Receives any remuneration, salary or other payments from the co-operative society save as in accordance with the Act.
- Has been charged of any offence involving dishonesty, a crime involving fraud, perjury or breach of contract of a licensed financial institution.
- Has been convicted of any offence involving dishonesty or is imprisoned for three months or more with a crime involving fraud, perjury or breach of contract of a licensed financial institution.
- A member should not be a board member of another existing society and /or Is an official of or holds a political office at any level
- Has not duly executed the fit and proper Test form as provided in the Regulations
- Has been removed from public office on disciplinary action
